Fortnightly Club Readies For Festival Of Trees

The Fortnightly Club of Catskill met at the home of Gwen Seeley on Wednesday, October 24th.
Bev Cotton called the meeting to order and minutes from our previous meeting were read by Gwen Seeley.
Work is continuing on a Spring Fundraiser which will be a wine and cheese event with a farmers market. Amy vonScholz and Bev Cotton are heading the event and reported on plans made up to this point. With the Club's Festival of Trees event only a few weeks away the many committees it takes to make this a success reported on their efforts to date. Some of the work involved include committees for Area & Design which will follow this years theme of a Fairytale Christmas, Tree Sponsors, Tree Decorators, the raffle events that take place throughout the festival, Entertainment and plans for the Children's Santa Room. The food offered at the Café during the festival is all homemade by the members of Fortnightly and will include a variety of baked good, soups, chili and many other delights. Betsy Cothren and Anita Emery, Festival Co-Chairs are very busy making sure this all comes together this year.

The Festival of Trees is a very successful fundraising event that enables the Fortnightly Club to donate monies to many charitable organizations in our community. The Gala will be held on Friday, November 9th from 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM.

The Festival Of Trees event is held Saturday and Sunday, November 10th and 11th.

The Club's next meeting will be a working meeting and will be held at the Elks Club on November 7th and will be hosted by Peggy Phillips.
Members are asked to be present at 6:30 PM for this meeting.

November 7th - The Club's next meeting will be a working meeting and will be held at the Elks Club on November 7th and will be hosted by Peggy Phillips.

November 9th - Gala for Festival of Trees at the Elks Club in Catskill. Opening Gala dinner party tickets are required in advance, $35 per person. For information/tickets contact Bev Cotton 943-2124, Betsy Cothren 943-7114 or Anita Emery 943-4047.

November 10th-11th - Festival Exhibition at the Elks Club in Catskill on Saturday November 10 from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM and on Sunday November 11, 11:00 AM-4:00 PM. Door admission is $3.00 and children under 5 are free.

The Fortnightly Club of Catskill held it's October 10th meeting at the home of Anita Emery. We welcomed several new members to the Club and Bev Cotton provided information on the club's history and our fundraising efforts. Our guest speaker for the meeting was Inez Dickens who gave a very inspirational talk about cervical cancer, it's warning signs and tried to dispel the myth of cervical cancer being called the silent killer. She spoke of the importance of recognizing early signs and seeking medical attention immediately. Inez also recounted her own battle with breast cancer. As a seven year survivor, Inez was an inspiration to everyone in attendance. The "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk was discussed. Anyone interested in walking will meet on Saturday, October 20th at 10:00 AM at the Catskill Middle School parking lot, creek side, for registration. The walk will begin at 11:00 AM. Sue Buno is the Chairperson for this event. Plans were also discussed for our wine and cheese Spring fundraising event. Amy von Scholz is developing a list of wineries to contact and has spoken to several local farms to include a farm market with the event. Plans for the twelfth annual Festival of Trees are in full swing. The Festival of Trees will be held at the Elks Club in Catskill and will open with the Gala on the evening of Friday, November 9th . Anyone interested in Gala tickets please contact Bev Cotton at 943-2124, Betsy Cothren at 943-7114 or Anita Emery at 943-4047. The theme for this years Festival is "A Fairytale Christmas". Festival exhibition will be November 10th from 10:00 AM till 5:00 PM and on Sunday, November 11th, from 11:00 AM till 4:00 PM. Admission is $3.00 at the door and children age 5 or under are free. The exhibition will consist of holiday gifts, crafts and candies. Talented local groups and individuals will provide entertainment throughout the weekend. Santa will be on hand to visit with the children and there is a café with light snacks and beverages. Beautifully decorated trees and wreaths are displayed and are for sale by auction.
